The Smart School project has helped to spawn local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and has attracted multinationals corporations (MNCs). The SMEs build up their capability as they develop local content for the smart school materials. MDeC, through the Smart School Department, has stayed consistent to its role as a catalyst in the e-Education cluster. To this end, it has offered several activities to nurture and support the companies:

Promotion and Networking: organizes seminars, talks and exhibitions locally and abroad to create greater awareness of the Flagship products and services to penetrate new markets.

Government to Government (G2G) projects: follows up on G2G agreement on ICT collaborations by introducing the Smart School Concept to other countries hence opening up global markets to Malaysian companies. Examples of G2G projects led by the Smart School Department are in Laos, Myanmar and Syria.

Facilitation: introduces companies with potentially relevant and viable e-Education solutions to stakeholders and assists companies in strategic approaches for piloting solutions.

Test-Bedding: Initiates the test-bedding of new ideas, concepts and solutions to create new opportunities hence widening the local e-Education market. Various test-bedding projects have been carried out to introduce new solutions for efficient delivery of education and innovative teaching and learning. They include the following:

  • Computing Tablet (CT) Project

  • Refurbished PCs for Schools

  • BumiUtama Corporation Sdn Bhd
