The Smart School program will be remodelled and its implementation fast tracked to enable more schools
to benefit, at lower cost to the government Smart School will have access to the Internet through the
SchoolNet Program, which is already at an advance stage of implementation. Advance teaching and learning
materials developed through the Smart School Pilot program will be utilised for teaching, while the
Smart School Management System will be used to improve administration processes.

On-Site Monitoring Programme
The objective: To enhance ICT utilization in schools
Impact: Pervasive culture of using technology in schools
- The site visits to schools by subject matter experts have started in March, 2007
- Once a month site visits to 47 Smart Schools
- First quarter report for Smart School Qualification Standards will be presented to MOE in July, current rating:
- 5-Star : 6 schools
- 4-Star : 8 schools
- 3-Star : 23 schools
- 2-Star : 8 schools
- 1-Star : 2 schools
Output: 47 schools have school-based strategies and action plans. 235 reports collected by June 2007.

The International Smart School Conference
Date: 16 - 18th April 2007
Venue: Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Impact:
- The first of its kind in the region
- Worldwide knowledge sharing through representation from 32 countries and 44 papers on worldwide implementation by practitioners

Smart School Qualification Standards (SSQS)
- Launched on 24th April, 2007 by H.E Minister of Education, Malaysia
- Developed by MDeC in collaboration with the Ministry of Education
- Impact:
- The SSQS is the first set of standards introduced to measure ICT utilization and to provide indicators for a smart school
- Increased ICT utilization and benefits reached users

Repositioning of the 88 Smart School
- Workshop on Discussion of the Policy Paper on Positioning of the 88 Smart Schools
Date: 1st workshop - 4th May 2007; 2nd workshop - 24th to 25th May 2007
Impact:
To ensure sustainability, competitiveness and uniqueness of the Smart School flagship against similar initiatives.
- The new and bolder image of the 88 smart schools is now taking shape and will be unveiled.
Impact:
The Malaysian Smart School is locally and internationally positioned.

The Programme Management of Enhancement and Deployment of Applications:
- Proof of Concept 'End-to-End Technical Outsourcing Model'
- The Working Committee for the Proof of Concept ÔEnd-to-End Technical Outsourcing ModelÕ has been established for the implementation in the 6 pilot schools.
- Impact:
Sustainable technical component of the smart school hence
supporting the schools' efforts in increasing their ICT utilization.
- The Web-based School Management System (WSMS) and Learning Content Management System (LCMS)
- Currently, WSMS is deployed in 48 Smart Schools
- 20 e-materials subjects uploaded into LCMS:
- English Language, Bahasa Melayu, Civic & Nationality, Moral Education, Geography, Public Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technology Engineering, Electronic and Electric Engineering, Engineering Drawing, Visual Art Education, History, Physic, Chemistry, Biology, Additional Mathematic, Islamic Education
- Impact:
The school management and resources in the 88 Smart Schools are enhanced and optimally managed.
- Pilot of MSC Interactive Content Proof-of-Concept
- Development of Content to be completed in May 2007
- Pilot in 4 Primary smart schools in June - Oct 2007
- Impact:
Teachers will be able to develop to access to learning object that they can use to create their own teaching and learning materials

Professional Development Programmes
- Aim to enhance skills for optimization of ICT among practitioners.
- Three (3) training programmes have been conducted:
- Bengkel Pengembangan Professional Bagi Ketua Panitia Pendidikan Islam dan Geografi , 27th March 2007 at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam
- Bengkel Program Pengembangan Professional Bagi Ketua Bidang Matematik, Sains, Bahasa Melayu dan Bahasa Inggeris Bagi Pemantapan 88 Sekolah Bestari, 11th March 2007 at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam
- 6 training modules for integration of ICT-based content in teaching and learning were developed: BM, English, Maths, Science, Islamic Education & Geography
- Impact:
Teachers will be equipped with the necessary skills and competency to optimize ICT integration in the teaching and learning (T&L).

A Study on Bandwidth Requirements for 88 Smart Schools
- Study to be completed in June, 2007
- Impact:
End users (teachers, students and administrators) will have access to reliable bandwidth so that they can conduct their daily activities effectively and efficiently.
