10 years have since passed when Malaysia first dreamt of creating schools which will nurture and develop future leaders holistically. Smart School, one of the seven flagships of the Multimedia Super Corridor, is now a dream realised. In spite of being challenged with steep learning curves to scale , tremendous progress has been made and much has been achieved. The struggle and toil to keep up with ICT's ever accelerating pace, has sparked the idea that perhaps the time has come for all of us, as one global nation to come together and share our knowledge and experiences to facilitate a smoother and more efficient journey in enhancing this dream.
The Smart School International Conference Malaysia 2007 was the first of its kind in the region. Emphasis was placed on results and outcomes of ICT utilization, while people and community were made the focal point as the means to achieve these desired results. This conference aimed to be a learner-oriented experience, leveraging on and capturing practitioners' actual first hand involvement..
The Conference endeavoured to provide policy makers and educationalists with an international forum where ideas, practical educational experiences and policies could be presented and discussed. Creating a people-focused learner-oriented environment is aligned with our theme of "Making Learning Fun". Invitations to the conference were extended to two hundred educators, government representatives and strategic industry partners from twenty countries. The conference obtained rave response from all invitees from the onset. We were greatly honoured by the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister, The Hounourable Dato' Sri Najib Tun Abd Razak who officiated the conference, and in his speech, conveyed and exhibited his full support in the cause championed by the smartschool team from Mdec. The Honourable Datuk Jamaludin Jarjis, Minister of the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, was also present to launch of the conference. The keynote address for this eminent conference was delivered by the Minister of Education, Y.B (The Honourable) Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
The objectives of this Conference are as follows:
| º |
To share knowledge and experience on the implementation of the Smart School
|
| º |
To identify/share best practices for the Smart School programme |
| º |
To derive lessons learnt from initiatives around the globe |
| º |
