Expatriate Living Guide

Healthcare & Medical Services

Hospitals, clinics, health insurance and medical costs for expatriates living and working in MSC Malaysia's Cyberjaya and Putrajaya corridor.

Malaysia has a dual-track healthcare system — an extensive public network and a well-developed private sector. For most expatriates in Cyberjaya and Putrajaya, private healthcare is the preferred route, offering shorter waiting times, English-speaking doctors and modern facilities. Costs are significantly lower than in most Western countries.

Hospitals

Key Hospitals Near the Corridor

Cyberjaya Hospital

A private general hospital within Cyberjaya township — the most conveniently located hospital for MSC company employees. Full A&E, inpatient and outpatient services, specialist clinics, maternity and surgical facilities. Accepts most corporate medical insurance panels.

Hospital Putrajaya

A large government tertiary hospital serving Putrajaya and the surrounding corridor. Excellent specialist facilities including cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics and a dedicated women and children's hospital. Very low costs for government patients; nominal charges for private patients. Long waiting times for non-emergency cases.

Putrajaya Specialist Hospital

A private specialist hospital in Putrajaya offering a broad range of specialist consultations, day surgery, diagnostics and maternity services. Modern facilities, English-speaking specialists, and direct billing to major insurance providers.

KL-Based Tertiary Hospitals

For complex specialist care, several world-class private hospitals in Kuala Lumpur are 30–45 minutes from Cyberjaya: Gleneagles KL, Prince Court Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre and DEMC Specialist Hospital. All are internationally accredited and regularly treat expatriate patients.

Clinics

Panel & General Practice Clinics

For general practitioner (GP) visits, minor illnesses and prescriptions, private panel clinics throughout Cyberjaya and Putrajaya offer fast, affordable care. Most MSC company group insurance plans include a panel clinic network — check with your HR department for the list of panel clinics near your office and home.

Panel Clinics

Panel clinics are private GP clinics registered with your company's health insurer. As an insured employee you typically pay a small co-payment (RM 0–15) per visit with direct billing to the insurer. Consultations are fast — typically 15–30 minutes — and clinics are walk-in. Multiple panel clinics operate throughout Cyberjaya and Putrajaya townships.

24-Hour Clinics

Several 24-hour clinics operate in Cyberjaya and surrounding Puchong/Sepang areas for after-hours non-emergency care. Cyberjaya Hospital's A&E is also available around the clock. For anything requiring urgent but non-life-threatening attention outside clinic hours, the hospital A&E is the most reliable option.

Dental & Optical

Dental clinics and optical shops are available within Cyberjaya City Centre, Tamarind Square and Putrajaya shopping areas. Dental fees are substantially lower than in most Western countries — a standard consultation and cleaning typically costs RM 80–150. Most corporate insurance plans include dental and optical coverage.

Health Insurance

Medical Insurance for Expatriates

Employer coverage: Most MSC Malaysia companies provide group medical insurance as a standard employment benefit. Verify your coverage limits, panel hospitals, outpatient benefits, and whether dependants (spouse and children) are included before you need to use it.

Employer Group Insurance

The standard in MSC Malaysia companies. Coverage typically includes inpatient hospitalisation, outpatient GP visits, specialist referrals, maternity and dental. Annual limits vary — RM 50,000 to RM 150,000+ inpatient. Confirm whether your plan covers pre-existing conditions and whether it provides coverage for overseas emergency treatment.

International Health Insurance

Expatriates seeking broader coverage — including home country treatment, higher annual limits, or private room guarantees — may supplement or replace employer coverage with an international health insurance policy. Providers such as Cigna, AXA and Allianz offer Malaysia-based expatriate plans. Premiums vary significantly by age and coverage level.

Malaysian Private Insurance

Malaysian private health insurance is available to foreign nationals with valid work or residence passes. Plans from Prudential, Great Eastern, AIA and others offer competitive medical coverage at lower premiums than international plans, but are generally valid only within Malaysia. A practical choice for long-term residents.
