Cybercities are designated zones within the MSC Malaysia corridor with world-class infrastructure for the digital economy — purpose-built to attract and support technology companies, knowledge workers, and innovation activity.

Cyberjaya

Malaysia's flagship technology city, purpose-built within the original MSC Malaysia corridor in Selangor. Cyberjaya was designed from the ground up as a smart city for the knowledge economy — home to multinational technology companies, Malaysian tech firms, the Multimedia University (MMU), and a range of innovation support infrastructure.

The city was developed by Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd in partnership with the Malaysian government, and was envisioned as Asia's answer to Silicon Valley — a dedicated ecosystem for technology development and deployment.

Putrajaya

Malaysia's planned federal administrative capital, developed as the physical embodiment of the e-Government flagship application. Putrajaya was designed as a paperless, digitally connected government city — housing federal ministries, statutory bodies, and the Prime Minister's Office with high-speed connectivity and smart city infrastructure.

The city's development was overseen by Putrajaya Corporation and represented one of the most ambitious smart government city projects undertaken in Asia during the late 1990s.

The KLCC zone serves as the corporate and financial hub of the MSC, home to the headquarters of major multinational corporations and financial institutions operating in the MSC Malaysia framework.

One of the original Cybercentres within the MSC Malaysia framework, Technology Park Malaysia in Bukit Jalil provides a research and technology park environment for MSC-status companies — with laboratory facilities, incubator programmes, and a focus on R&D and technology commercialisation.

Established in 2006 within the Iskandar Malaysia development corridor in southern Johor, the MSC Cyberport extended the MSC Malaysia programme to Malaysia's southern economic growth zone — strategically positioned to serve the Singapore-Malaysia technology ecosystem.

Qualifying for Cybercentre Status

For a location to be designated as an MSC Malaysia Cybercentre, it must meet specific infrastructure requirements including high-speed broadband connectivity, modern physical facilities, and a critical mass of MSC-status companies. The designation is awarded by MDEC following an assessment process.

Companies located within designated Cybercities and Cybercentres are eligible to apply for MSC Malaysia status — now rebranded as Malaysia Digital (MD) status — and access the associated tax incentives, intellectual property protections, and regulatory benefits of the programme.
