MSC Malaysia Reference Portal Now Live

This portal has been established to preserve and document the historical MSC Malaysia framework — covering the programme's cyber laws, flagship applications, Cybercities, and policy documents as a free public reference resource for researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers, and the general public.

All major sections are now live including the full Cyber Laws reference, Smart School flagship documentation, MSC Malaysia Flagships overview, and the historical company and rollout records.

Malaysia Digital Status Replaces MSC Malaysia Status

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) announced the transition from MSC Malaysia status to the new Malaysia Digital (MD) status framework — removing the geographic corridor restriction and modernising the incentive structure for Malaysia's digital economy participants. Existing MSC Malaysia status companies were invited to transition to MD status.

MyKad — 20 Years of the World's First Multipurpose Smart National ID

September 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of Malaysia's MyKad — the world's first multipurpose smart national identity card, launched under the MSC Malaysia Multipurpose Card flagship application in September 2001. The MyKad remains one of the most internationally cited achievements of the MSC programme.

Trademarks Act 2019 Replaces Trade Marks Act 1976

Malaysia's Trademarks Act 2019 came into force on 27 December 2019, replacing the Trade Marks Act 1976 (Act 175) that had governed trade mark registration and protection in Malaysia for over four decades. The new Act modernises Malaysian trade mark law — introducing non-traditional marks and aligning with Malaysia's international treaty obligations.
